‘A Bigger Splash’ is a typical arthouse movie, slow to develop, beautiful to look at, and with great performances from the four principal actors.
Then it suddenly revs up in the final 20 minutes and has the audience wondering how it will end.
The Guardian gave it 4 stars out of 5, http://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/feb/11/a-bigger-splash-review-tilda-swinton-ralph-fiennes-luca-guadagnino, Rotten Tomatoes gave it 84% and I would say see it for a couple of hours escapism. At the Mazarin in VO.
Meanwhile, La Provence is reporting that ‘Marseille’ the new Kad Merad film ‘a fait flop’ with just over half a million entries in the first 3 weeks. It’s a very likeable story all set in Marseille, so lots of location-spotting for locals. The subtitled version doesn’t seem to be showing at the moment…maybe that would bring in a few more punters? At the Cézanne.
Have you tried ‘The Durrells’ series. It started on ITV on Sunday at 8pm. Based in the late 1930’s, a widow takes her 4 children to live in Greece. It’s based on the novel My Family and Other Animals. We really liked it. Amy
