Last autumn, it was announced that two mansions in centre ville were up for sale (https://aixcentric.com/2015/10/17/mansions-for-sale-in-aix-and-transport-news-from-marseille/) and now there is some progress to report on one.
The Hotel de Valbelle, currently the sous-prefecture, in rue Mignet, has been snapped up by a property group. The town authorities have all the hotels particuliers they have use for, and this particular building, while having fine bones, has been stripped out over the years and is ready for extensive renovation.
The Inovalis group have bought it for a reported 9m euros and will be converting it into 20 quality apartments. The new building for the sous-prefecture is in rue de la Poudriere, just down from the gare routier.
Meanwhile the Hotel de Castillon in the cours Mirabeau has yet to find a suitable buyer. No suitable candidates have so far emerged for this lovely building in such a high-profile position. Formerly the art gallery for the conseil départemental, it has a courtyard and garage and price-tag of 6,48m euros. Let’s hope some organisation does a ‘Hotel Caumont’ on it!
