This post may be a little longer than usual…but that is a reflection of the wide variety of activities at Aix’s ‘English Bubble’.
Even if you’ve heard of it, you may not realise just how much manager Melina offers there…and this info may well be worth passing on to your Anglophile French friends and neighbours. Read on to find out about:
English classes for babies through to teens
English discussion sessions for French locals
Book-group
Ceramics Sessions
Birthday Parties
Pilates for Adults
Café and English food for sale
- English Classes: there is a team of experienced teachers leading sessions for babies to teenager beginners, in small groups. Learning is fun-based,
with songs, rhymes, and craft-play, all in English. There is a bi-lingual class for local kids who are already experienced in English – its purpose is to give them more advanced vocabulary through drama. For those who are not yet bilingual but have some English, there is ‘Studies and Fun’ which builds on their existing level of the language. Times are after school or Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
- English Conversation: this is for French adults but apparently it’s a popular group and local English people often join in the discussion.
- Book Group: this takes place on Thursday evenings and includes a dinner made by Melina. It’s a friendly group and a good way to practice English.
- Ceramics: People can come in any time to paint small items – or come as part of a group/party. It’s especially popular on Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays. Children and adults can paint plates for instance for Mother’s Day presents, or immortalise their own or a baby’s hand-prints in paint for grand-parents. Melina then fires and glazes the items for collection.
- Children’s Birthday Parties: what a brilliant idea for parents with limited
space. English Bubble has everything you need to host a super birthday treat.
- Pilates: this is for men and women, Monday and Thursday evenings. Participants pay by term but there is provision for locals to ‘pay as you go’.
- English Grocery Shop: Melina stocks HP sauce, baked beans, Branston pickle, mint sauce, Bisto, self-raising flour, baking powder, brown sugar, PG Tips, pickled onions, Cadburys chocolate and drinking chocolate, Twiglets and …..apparently popular for local ladies, Radox. She also has curry sauces and is a good bet for seasonal items.
English Bubble is in the southern part of Aix, just off J31 of the A8. 453 Avenue Jean Paul Coste. There’s a car-park for the commerces and English Bubble is tucked behind the Credit Lyonnais bank and the driving school.
