Aix’s lovely Hotel de Caumont is hosting an evening entitled ‘1715-1745: Hotel de Caumont et la vie musicale aixoise’ on Saturday. Leading local musician Guy Laurent will be leading the discussion and playing music from the period.
The building itself was started in 1715 and quickly became a focus for musicians who performed at the aristocratic family’s evenings.
What was the music like in baroque Aix? How important was it in the town’s public life? What was the role of the cathedral in the creation of Provencal music? The evening will include musical excerpts and discussion.
