Slowly, the shopping and eating area tucked underneath the imposing cathedrale de la Major is coming to life. There are 8 stores open so far, including a very large Habitat (1500m2) and a Fragonard more of which later.
It’s a beautifully renovated urban space: over 27m euros have been invested to convert long-abandoned storage areas and depots into this centre.
But with the enormous Terrasses du Port mall now in full swing, and another 80 shops forecast for Les Docks opposite, one does have to wonder how many more outlets are needed in this area?
One of the problems that the Voutes de la Major is that the restaurants and shops aren’t very visible – they are very tucked away; and I do wonder if the up-market brands are what will work in that location?
Fragonard is worth making the journey for. It has a lovely array of lotions and potions and smells so delicious. Plus they have pretty home items which make lovely presents.
