A self-guided walking tour of Aix that takes you to all the best places in town has been created by Carolyne Kauser-Abbott of Edible Heritage.
It brings to life the monuments, fountains, buildings of centre ville along with stories of the lives of famous local figures. But it’s more than just a history lesson. Carolyne has sensibly included info on where to stop and eat – as well as shopping tips.
The walk itself should take 2.5 hours but adding in eating and shopping can make this the basis of a splendid day out and about in Aix.
Canadian-based Carolyne spends extensive periods of time in Provence, a region very close to her heart; so much so that she has launched a website and newsletter, Perfectly Provence, which takes feeds from around 30 local blogs, Aixcentric included. You can dip into the website for recipes, info on villages and towns, first-person stories on life here, restaurant reviews – loads of inspiration from Provence-based writers; and/or opt for a rich helping of Provencal life coming into your mail-box on a regular basis.
