Another great idea. An aquarium for Marseille to be built beside and in the sea, perhaps on the J1 site.
This has been proposed by the town authorities. The project is being headed by Gérard Chenoz, adjoint au maire UMP who says he want to make is one of the most beautiful in the world. His ideal is to make it as amazing as The Blue Planet in Copenhagen and estimates it will cost up to 100m euros. This money will have to come from private sources and also be recouped from ticket sales.
So what will we see? Sharks of course. They are the undisputed attraction of aquariums world-wide, giving children the thrill of seeing such dangerous beasts up, close and personal. But this aquarium will also display the marine life of the Mediterranean, and they are also working on different themes and changing displays in order to ensure repeat visits.
Having had the pleasure of visiting the J1 jetty during the 2013 Year of Culture, it’s sad to see such a great space sitting unused for public visits. This would be a fantastic location for an aquarium which would surely be a major attribute for the city. I hope the various parties can give this location the green light.
Brilliant, the aquarium in Monaco is excellent, would to see one closer to us and a little more accessible.
Exactly! Let’s hope it happens….
