This was what was on offer in Bergen when we visited a couple of years ago and I found it horrifying. I suppose logically it’s no different to a tuna sarnie but there’s something so majestic and mysterious about whales that makes turning them into toasties so much more sad.
Thankfully there are people combatting this unnecessary cull and in Aix we have the opportunity to meet a world-renowned environmentalist Paul Watson who will be in town to give a talk.
His is an interesting background. He was an early and prominent member of Greenpeace from which he split to organise more direct action to put an end to the destruction of marine ecosystems. He has led over 225 ocean-going expeditions and is the founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Read his biography, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Watson, to find out more about this passionate, controversial, driven man…and book your place to find out more by listening to his lecture on May 21st.
It’s in aid of the Natural History Museum of Aix which is currently homeless.
