The local petit-trains which have mostly been laid-up over the winter are coming back to our streets – good news for visitors with little ones or for elderly people or for those who want a whistle-stop tour with commentary. They really are a great idea. Here’s a round-up of news – including one where you have to take your passport!
The Aix petit train is back in action from today. I believe its new pick-up point is next to the Cézanne statue at the Rotonde. Details of times and fares are here: http://www.cpts.fr/details-visite+commentee+en+train+touristique+d+aix+en+provence-111.html
The same company is responsible for the Cassis petit train which is also running again from this weekend.
This weekend also sees the start of the service over in Avignon which as you can see here will whisk you around all the key sites. Details on http://www.petittrainavignon.fr.
The same website also publicises petit trains which run in Vaison la Romaine.
Marseille has had its popular service up to Notre Dame de la Garde available throughout the winter; but its second loop around the Panier will be working again from April 1st. http://www.petit-train-marseille.com.
I really don’t know Toulon at all and so am delighted to discover that they now have 2 train circuits which I would love to try. The first ‘City Tour’ does what it says on the tin but has a new feature in that it stops at les plages du Mourillon where people can get off, enjoy the beach and return to the port later on the same ticket. The second is the ‘Base Navale’ unique in France in that it goes right into the naval base. You need identity cards or passports for this one. The services begin during the month of April – check out details here: http://www.traintoulon.com/index.html
