Lots of sales going on at the moment across France, but the most unusual must be the massive auction of items from the famous, glittering Hotel de Paris in Monaco.
As part of its renovation project, they will be selling off all manner of items from the hotel which was established in 1864 to accommodate patrons of the new Casino across the square. It was a champagne-stop for ‘Bertie’ the future Edward VII, a favourite of Diaghilev and the ballet russes as well as Charlie Chaplin, Cocteau, Coco Chanel, the local royals of course – the list goes on.
They are selling off coffee tables, chandeliers, 300 bathrobes, 2000 plates, 140 umbrellas, beds…even the piano from the American bar….4000 lots with 10,000 items. Lots start at 100€ and go up to 10,000€.
