It cost 73 million euros and its stated purpose was to provide a focal point for meetings, conferences, films and exhibitions on matters Mediterranean; but it’s now been revealed that the upkeep and running costs for the Villa Mediterranée were 4.4 million euros last year, paid by the region.
Now it looks as though it is going to be handed free to the state in the form of Avitem, a government agency.
On the positive side, they are looking to partner with the university who could use it as a resource and also partner MUCEM; and it will be in business during the Paris 2015 Climate Change Conference in May.
