Opening on November 26th, La French is the latest film starring Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin – and it’s set in Marseille.
He plays a French police magistrate sent to Marseille to bring to book a powerful drugs ring which, apart from the usual malfaiteurs, includes local police and government officials. It tells the story of the French Connection – in fact when this film is shown outside France, it is called La Connection. Set in 1975, there are lots of sideburns, lots of shootings – and great views of Marseille. VF. At the Cézanne.
Also opening, ‘Night Call’ with Jake Gyllenhaal, playing a loner who decides to haunt the LA streets at night looking for accidents or murders that he can film for footage to sell to the networks. Apparently a good thriller which was called ‘Night Crawler’ in UK and US. VF and VO, at the Cézanne.
‘Paddington’ is having its premiere on Sunday 30th November at the Cézanne, a must for the kids, one would think….but not according to the UK film censors who panned it for featuring ‘sex references, bad language and dangerous behaviour’. I love your blog and have followed regularly since moving to Aix in August. Do you happen to know anywhere that does a proper English tea with tea sandwiches, scones, etc.? I have tried googling areas around Aix and Marseille to no avail. I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks much,
Leslie

Hello. I know exactly what you mean, being addicted to English cream teas. I don’t know anywhere that serves such a treat but there are two restos which say they offer English brunch and tea: Simple Simon in Avignon and The Cup of Tea in Marseille. Both get good online reviews but I haven’t tried either – let me know how you get on! Best, Aixcentric
Great, thanks. I will give them a try.
