I’m sure lots of people, having read ‘Gone Girl’, are eagerly waiting for the film. Happily it opens on Wednesday in both VO and VF at the Cézanne.
I was curious as to how the screenplay would unfold the story – the book has alternating chapters from the very different view-points of Nick and Amy, a couple locked in a toxic relationship. In fact the film is very skilfully produced and, even though I knew the plot, had me on the edge of my seat. Both Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are excellent as the main characters. My only whinge was not being able to follow the sound-track in places – some of it is mumbled in fast American accents. Maybe better to see it in Aix with French subtitles!
Also opening, ‘National Gallery’ which is a documentary portrait of London’s great collection of paintings. What a nice way to spend an afternoon. Daily at the Renoir.
One-offs showing this coming week include ‘Comrades’, the story of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, sent to Australia for trying to organise a trades union in 19th century Dorset. On Thursday 9th, 19:15, VO, the Mazarin.
A world away from Tolpuddle is the film of the hugely popular One Direction boy band on Sunday 12th, 14:00, VO, the Cézanne.
Avoided the book, but quite fancy seeing the film!
It seems to be very controversial…lots of UK press comments on the behaviours of the couple. Difficult to discuss without spoilers!
