As a lead-up to the Festival d’Aix, musicians will be giving performances and masterclasses not only in town but in some outlying communities too. There will be 30 events during June and, to attract a wider public, entry will be just 5€ or for unlimited access 15€. Free to the under 30s. The programme culminates in PARADES, a big free concert in the Cours Mirabeau on 29th June – but more of that nearer the time.

Meanwhile, the series of summer markets begins next weekend: all except the last one will take place in the Cours Mirabeau.
15th June
Les Métiers d’Art: 60 exhibitors will be presenting their creations – stone, glass, metals, textiles.
15th July – 30th August
Les Nuitées d’Aix: the town’s traditional night markets. Perfect for wandering through in the cool of the evening. Local products and crafts.
31st August
Les Bijoux d’Aix: From simple to sophisticated, jewellery to suit everyone at this market.
5th October.
Les Greniers d’Aix: the town’s famous rummage sale. Not clear if this is in its usual spot – Cours Sextius – or will be held in the allée Mozart. Probably the latter would be easier for the traffic. Time no doubt will tell.
