‘Dame Jane Morris Goodall DBE is a British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace and… considered the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees’, reads the beginning of the Wikipedia entry for this remarkable woman.
She will be visiting Aix this month to give a conference on deforestation, desertification and planetary biodiversity. She will also do a book signing. Aix is especially honoured to be able to help Dr. Goodall celebrate her 80th birthday this year.
When: 20:30hrs, May 19th
Where: in the Auditorium of the Darius Milhaud Conservatory of Music and Dance.
This is part of a programme to raise awareness for The Natural History Museum of Aix, formerly housed in the splendid Hôtel Boyer d’Eguilles on Rue Espariat. Last month, the museum had to vacate the premises. Peter Curd is Treasurer of the association working to ensure that the Museum is not forgotten and will eventually find a new home.
Founded in 1838, the Museum, internationally known for its dinosaur remains, owns a unique collection of over 400,000 objects, all of them currently in storage.
You may reserve seats for the lecture by signing up on the site below. A donation of 10 Euros per person is welcome and entitles you to a membership of the committee (Comité pour un Muséum des sciences et d’Histoire naturelle dans le pays d’Aix).
Please support the Museum by attending this exceptional event. Thank you to Ester for this information.
