Primark have finally announced the opening date for their new store in Marseille – their first in France.
The 7,000 m2 store will open on 16th December at the Grand Littoral commercial centre. Apparently the management realised that there was a big market here for bargain clothing when they saw the number of French credit cards receipts in their Oxford Street, London, branch, which tallied with the numbers of enthusiastic French shoppers streaming across the border to Saarbrucken.

Police were called in due to large crowds at the opening of Primark Oxford Street. Let’s hope the Marseille opening will be calmer.
In fact today the company has announced soaring sales figures and profits: 44pc rise in operating profit on a 22pc revenue rise. Retail analysts point to the demand for a cheap, fun fashion. ‘Everyone loves a bargain’, one fashion editor said today on UK TV and explained that they are catering to the fashionistas who want something different to wear each weekend.
Interestingly, Primark doesn’t have an online operation, preferring to sell on the high street.
300 new jobs will be created at the store.
Sad. And telling that they would open their first French store in Marseille, not Paris.
It’s the way of the world right now – and they have an ambitious roll-out for France.
Why should it always be in Paris ????
